SUNDAY POST: City

I should mention here my love/hate relationship with cities, particularly with the one I inhabit. It is Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, a bustling town covering an area of 3,719 km2 with a population of over 1,200,000. Yet, as so many others it has its good sides.

What attracts us to cities? Is it friends, family, good schools, jobs, culture, entertainment, the dread of commuting, promise of a better life? All these reasons are valid to me, and though I get tired of all the hustle and bustle, I don’t see myself living permanently anywhere else…

Have a look at the cityscape I took on my morning walk. The enclosed music is by my favourite band Yello (Till Tomorrow).

  1. Really a great shot… πŸ™‚

I like both city life and country life – and wouldn’t miss any of them and therefor I exchanger a little between them – love the peace in the countryside and also love the anonymity of city life – anonymity, it is not in the countryside… πŸ™‚

    • You speak the truth my friend… no anonymity in the countryside :D, and you are lucky to be able to experience both πŸ˜‰

  2. Beautiful city photograph, Paula. I really like the vibrance of the colors, and the natural lines that lead the viewer into the subject of the photo, in this case, the city. I like the sky and the clouds as well, very well taken! πŸ˜€

  6. Cities are not among my favorite places to be. A couple of days is all I can manage. I need green around me, trees, have to be able to see the skies. So I understand your love-hate relationship, Paula. You shot a nice photo, I like the green-blue combination, with the city in the distance.
    Have a warm Sunday.

  7. Such vibrant colors, and extremely good use of leading lines, very well done! Almost makes me want to visit.

But only almost, as my answer to the first question, “What attracts us to cities?” would be “absolutely nothing.” Though you have photographed it in a very inviting way, there is too much concrete, not enough dirt, grass, and trees. Too many roads and not enough rivers and streams. And too many buildings and people, and not enough mountains and the quiet solitude I get from living in the rural area that I enjoy so much.

However, I have to close in saying that no matter how much I dislike cities, your photograph wonderful, inviting, and overall just very well done! I hope you enjoy your lovely city enough for the both of us. πŸ˜€

    • *blush* You made be blush, Jeffo. One thing though, we do have dirt… as a matter of fact I stepped into a dog poo this morning… Is it considered good luck? I am both touched and grateful for this wonderful review πŸ™‚
