My fascination with owls made me do some research on their symbolism especially in Native American culture. Here are some interesting excerpts I found on the boundless world of Internet…

Owl Symbolism

Symbolic meanings for the owl are:

  • Intuition, ability to see what others do not see

  • The presence of the owl announces change

  • Capacity to see beyond deceit and masks

  • Wisdom

  • The traditional meaning of the owl spirit animal is the announcer of death, most likely symbolic like a life transition, change

The owl spirit animal and the power to see in the dark

The owl sees in the dark: As a spirit animal, the owl guides you to see beyond the veil of deception and illusion; it helps see what’s kept hidden. It also symbolizes the ability to cut through illusions and see the real meaning of someone’s action or state of mind.

When the owl is one of your power animals, you have a strong intuition and can access information and wisdom that’s usually hidden to most. The spirit of this animal encourages you to look beyond deceiving appearances into the true reality of a situation or a person’s motives.

The owl is a strong spirit guide for discernment and making decision based solid foundations. Call on the owl totem when you have to assess a situation or are going through confusing times.

  6. I have connections with owls through people I love. My small collection (glass, and a metal paperweight with an ancient Greek flavour) came from my beloved aunt, and wisdom was certainly one of her attributes. My daughter’s partner is nicknamed Owl because of his beaky physical resemblance: he certainly marked deep change in my daughter’s life.

    But I’ve also had a few memorable encounters with real owls: one through the window into the night on the deck in the Australian bush. It was only a few feet away, but we often saw owls on fence posts along the river road after dark. One day we eyeballed a powerful owl perched on a branch in a small rainforest patch at the end of my Potato Point beach.

    Thank you for prompting pleasant memories in my Warsaw apartment, and for enriching my owl experiences with the symbolism of owls, that wonderful photo and your accompanying music.

  26. There is something very enticing about owls. They hold so many mysteries and are such important symbols in many cultures. My sweetheart may not be as fascinated about owls since they regularly attack her at dusk when she walks in a forest close by (it’s probably her long pony tail that makes them think she is some other kind of animal).

    I must admit that I rarely endorses the human qualities we attaches animals and nor animal talents we attach ourselves – in a way it is too romantic for me – we call male lion of the king of beasts but everyone knows that it is the female lion that controls and organizes the groups of lions – features are grown from the life we ​​live it is also applies to animals – perhaps especially animals – we humans are perhaps the most fragile animals because our “world” is built with both imaginary and real walls – like a turtle is dependent on its shield, then we humans rely on our walls … 😎

    The owl is a fantastic creature perfectly adapted to its life – great night’s eyes, soft sound absorbing plumage, light nimble bones, directional hearing ability and so on… 🙂
