Here is another Black & White Sunday photo challenge. I did some selective colouring, because I could not resist, but you are not required to do the same. You can do sepia, you can do it in cool or warm monochrome tones, you can do anything within black & white photography as long as you promise to have fun. Send me your links … I’m waiting.

I think the little splash of colour is very nice and tastefully done. The texture you managed to get from the buildings really adds to the overall feel for me.
I love the selective colouring and the shadows on the stairs and the worn buildings. The selective colouring is particularly interesting to me: I’ve just been reading about photographers who add colour (http://nga.gov.au/ColourMyWorld/Conventions.cfm)
What a place, isn’t it, Paula? π You capture the atmosphere so beautifully then add your own little spark. π Your lady singer has a fine voice too. Happy Sunday! Any improvement yet?
The lace-like shadows on the stairs , contrasting with the massive buildings , the light nuance of color and the precise composition , make this photo a treat!
Love,
A.
Love the touch of color! Call me strange but I like the rectangular and arched architecture of the two buildings. I prefer the style of the arches but it’s a great photo composition the way the stairs just lead you to — which one?!
The tiny entrance/exit between both houses looks almost like a tight place from “Winnie the Pooh”. π A lot of character and details, Paula – you have done a brilliant job on the photo! The little red jacket is a lovely touch, I also like the patterns of shadows on the stairs.
Here’s mine: https://esengasvoice.wordpress.com/2015/03/29/black-white-sunday-across/
Have a calm Sunday evening! Hugs
A small tip: As a final step, take the desaturation brush, at 100% strength and brush over the window and wall behind the woman to delete the colour from the building.

Perfect selective colouring, Paula – it looks so natural π
My contribution is from colder, damper climes!

Thanks for the link, Meg. I’d say that in this case it wasn’t adding of a colour, but preserving it selectively. Have a nice Sunday!

I love this shot- where it is, and the pop of color. How’d you do that?

Hi DM. It’s in Venice. It was originally a colour shot that I converted into B&W, by preserving this spot colour.

The splash of colour worked perfectly. I love the way the path over the bridge seems to continue up through the narrow break in the buildings.

and these are wonderful, John. Selective colouring is not complicated. People tell me they even do in Pixlemonkey and similar apps.
