THURSDAY’S SPECIAL: TRACES OF THE PAST Y3-09

“Historic Scotland calls Hermitage Castle an eerie ruin, and the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland calls it the most perfect example of a medieval castle in the Borders. It is both.”

I am too lazy today to write a few sentences about this beautiful castle/ruin that I visited briefly during my last holiday. Instead, I am offering a link to an article that might satisfy your curiosity.

  2. Very classic and very early medieval. This was when they were simple, round stone building, before they started turning them into an entire village. We saw a couple of buildings like that in Ireland, but smaller. Some of them were closer to the size of a silo. Great shot!

  10. I’ve just been to the link. Gosh! You would not guess the place has such a very dark history from the tranquillity of this scene. A fine shot, Paula, above a drift of rosebay willow herb. It usually grows vigorously where there has been a lot of ground disturbance and/or fire – hence its common name Fire Weed. I’m sorry you received more than you fair share of grizzly British weather on your trip, but here it adds some drama. Happy Thursday.
