JUNE RECAP

It’s time for my monthly recap.

And some in Black and White

BLACK & WHITE SUNDAY: TRACES OF THE PAST Y3-06

A step into the past, back to some 6,000 BC among the neolithic stones called Almendres Cromlech (Cromeleque dos Almendres) belonging to the “megalithic universe of Évora”, Portugal.

For further reading about this site click  hereIf you want to join today’s challenge with the recurrent monthly theme: Traces of the past – post a photo or two of anything that belongs to a past (distant or recent), make it monochrome and publish it before next Sunday.

THURSDAY’S SPECIAL: WINDING

Welcome to Thursday’s Special photo challenge again. Today’s theme is WINDING. Instead of sharing why I chose today’s theme, I would like you to read this great quote by Yeats:

Life is a journey up a spiral staircase; as we grow older we cover the ground covered we have covered before, only higher up; as we look down the winding stair below us we measure our progress by the number of places where we were but no longer are. The journey is both repetitious and progressive; we go both round and upward.

The example bellow shows a well from Quinta da Regaleira, a bewildering estate located near the historic centre of Sintra in Portugal. “Built at the turn of the 20th century owing to the rich imagination of its owner Carvalho Monteiro and that of Italian architect Luigi Manini, the estate is an enchanting property featuring a palace and a chapel, a luxurious park with lakes, grottoes, benches, fountains and a vast array of exquisite constructions among which the most mysterious and appealing are initiation wells that resemble underground towers lined with stairs. The wells were never used as water sources; instead they served for ceremonial purposes that included Rosicrucian initiation rites.” (text taken from some tourist brochure).

FOLLOW MY SHADOW

From the left bank of the Tagus River,  a magnificent, red-painted, steel suspension structure crosses the bay and takes you straight onto shores of Lisbon. All you need to do is follow its shadow.

Weekly photo challenge now appears on Wednesdays, but I will continue to post for it on Fridays. The theme this week is Shadow. Our blogger friend Restless Jo likes walks but she also likes bridges, and I am sure she crossed this one before. Please, join her for her latest walk in the south of Portugal.

BLACK & WHITE SUNDAY: SIGN

Welcome to another Black and White Sunday challenge. Today’s theme is SIGN.

I went with my astrological sign depicted in a beautiful pavement in Belem district of Lisbon, but you know that you can take this word as far as you want. Let’s see how creative you can be.

Just remember that this is a monochrome challenge. You have time to make a photo post till next Saturday.

Have a great week ahead!

Hell’s Mouth – Not so Hellish

One of the first stops during my visit to Portugal was Boca do Inferno which in English translates as:  Hell’s Mouth. It was early May and the air temperature rose above 35 Celsius. The ocean was unusually calm and nothing suggested the raging waves this spot is known for.

This is my entry for the challenge run by Restless Jo who made Portugal her second home.

Beneath My Feet

I’ve been walking the Earth for several decades now, and exploring the grounds all the way from Croatia to Portugal which was my most recent foreign destination. Here is a capture of what I had beneath my feet.

A Dream Come True

It was a dream which I wanted to last a bit longer.

I’m back from my trip. As of tomorrow things are back to normal, challenges and all….
