Lost in Translation

Black & White Sunday: Soaring into the Sky

Standing prominently on Montmartre (the Hill of Martyrs where the first bishop of Paris was beheaded) the Basilica of the Sacred Heart marks the highest point of the city and on a clear day offers the most beautiful view stretching to 50 km radius. Regular visitors of my blog could see the photos of the Basilica from different angles as well as some breathtaking views captured from its soaring towers. This black and white capture is the last picture in my Sacre Coeur collection, but I am sure some day I will go back for more.

Paula, that photo is fantastic. I love the tones and the contrasts. And the angle of the shot really sets it off against the sky. Beautiful!

Black and white is so powerful, Paula. I’m eager to return home and play around with transformations. This one gives so much gravitas to the building, and its architecture becomes so clear. I love the angle you’ve taken it from too. Thanks for ongoing photographic inspiration.

That’s a beauty! 🙂 I will look for that angle when I’m there next month. Love the atmospheric music too, Paula. It must take you ages to decide on the perfect match, or do you usually have something in mind when you decide what to post?
Sacre Couer is one of my strongest memories from my visit when I was ‘just a lass’. I can’t wait to see it again.

    Amazing area, visiting Paris I always stay overnight at a pair of my friends only one and a half stone’s throw north of Sacre Coeur – she is a native parisian and him she has “imported” from Colmar… 😀

    I’ve actually returned from the trip already. It lasted only from Saturday – Tuesday, that’s all we could afford. It’s a shame to live in such a beautiful country and at the same time not being able to appreciate it… If we had our own car, or a camper car, it would have been easier, but for the same amount that we spent those days, we could have spent a week or two in some cheaper country…

Very good picture of the Sacré-Coeur, which is not easy to achieve: the subject has been done so many times…
(I personally hate its architecture!!) 🙂
