Thursday’s Special: Enchanted

This is a castle called Hrad Devin near Bratislava, Slovakia. I will show you more of it in one of my forthcoming posts. The speckles in the image are not the sensor dust, but many insects that saturated the air by the Danube. As a matter of fact, the day I visited Devin will be remembered as the day I first swallowed a live fly.

If you would like to participate in Thursday’s Special themeless (non)challenge, feel free to grab my Jupiter widget bellow and provide a link to this post in your post especially designed for this occasion. More details here

      • You’ll see how dull the sky was, and pictures are dull too, but it is exciting to see new places even if it means swallowing a fly or two 😀

        • Dull skies are always a problem when photographing places… I have a lot of photos with dull skies. Sometimes you can make something interesting out of it later in Photoshop/Lightroom, but usually I just don’t bother.

    • 😀 Thanks Debbie, you may be up for disappointment. I hate going to new places and climb hills only to find out that visibility is crappy. Still, I am happy I visited Slovakia and I find it pretty exotic though I am not planning on going back 😀

    • In that case you should aim at other than summer season. I am sure the place looks far more appealing in Autumn or early Spring 🙂

  1. Not only do I like the image Paula but the fact that the sky was thick with insects is fascinating. I will confess that as a cyclist insect swallowing does happen from time to time. I’ve also had a bee get inside my helmet. I think I’ll take the insect swallowing. 🙂

  6. Ugh! I’ve done that. It’s gross! (fly swallowing) 😦
Wonderfully atmospheric music to fit your photo, Paula. Hope the week has calmed down a little for you.
I think my Thursday post might have gone with your Enchanted theme this week but I was too impatient to wait and find out what the theme was. I love it! 🙂

  7. An interesting castle. Are you allowed to climb up the top?
Not sure about the insects though. Not nutritious enough for this dragon. 🙂

  8. It certainly does look enchanted. I really like the way you have processed the image.

  10. Stunning image, and such dramatic music, Paula. The insects in the air make it difficult not to swallow or breathe in one or two now and then. As my granddad would have said, “It’s extra protein.” 🙂

  11. This castle looks like what I would expect from that era. Looks all mysterious with many secrets hidden in it walls. Did you manage to go inside Paula?

  12. Such an enchanting place Paula. What a beautiful shot! Don’t feel bad. Here we have nuisance flies or ‘muggies’ as well call them and in the summer they are all over. Like hubby said the time I swallowed one : ‘Don’t fret. You just had a bit of meat with breakfast.’ I didn’t think he was funny but he cracked himself. LOL!
