Thursday’s Special: In the background

When thinking of a subject matter for your photo, you shouldn’t forget the background; after all it takes the better half of a photo. If messy, the background will be distracting and pull the viewer’s eye away from the subject of the photo. It can be either complementary to the subject or an integral part of it, or it can even make a  statement. Whatever your approach, I look forward to seeing your results. Please, leave links to your responses to this challenge. Happy Thursday!

  2. Agree totally. One often forgets the background. Or the foreground: typical party picture with glasses and bottles in the foreground. 🙂
Love your composition. Everything in its place.

    1. Can you picture Barry White and Pavarotti fighting over a bowl of jelly beans? (this is what I had in mind :D, btw they sing in the song here)

      1. I have a confession to make: I don’t always play the song. Please don’t be mad, I realize it is part of your work in composing the post. As an excuse, the bar is so small I sometimes don’t see it. Now that I did, it is great fun. The stars and spangled banner is for Barry White, and the green, white and red jelly beans are for Pavarotti? 🙂

        1. Of course I am not mad. Many people don’t listen cause they don’t have time. I like the bar is so small, it is more elegant that way. You guessed right Red and Green is for Pavarotti 😀

    1. Thank you, Adrian. I removed the “Button” long time ago and introduced “stars” instead. 🙂 This way, people (those who feel like it) come here and comment, and not just click. I am demanding that way 😀

  8. Such an emblematic shot, Paula. The US in her spankingly brightest colours. And very oddly I was thinking about jelly beans yesterday. Was that your fault?? :O

    1. All my fault 😀 Thanks, Tish 😆

Non si deve considerarlo una “aggiunta”!

  11. A most unusual photo, Paula. So colourful too! I love the song, but prefer Barry White singing it. 🙂 Here’s my entry, taken at the same beach as my beloved lighthouse: https://anotherday2paradise.wordpress.com/2015/12/10/thursdays-special-with-the-ocean-as-my-background/

  16. […] In the Background is today’s theme @ Paula’s Thursday’s Special. I love macro and have some really good shots I would love to post but I cannot seem to find them. So in their place are these two I took this past October. The thing I am discovering about macro is the background needs to have a decent bokeh or consist of a single color (solid blue sky for example). The subject of your macro needs to be in the depth of field and the correct background makes it “pop”. I have a nice shot in B&W of a bonfire I took that has no reflections on the background and the solid black background helps draw your eye to the flames…..but that is for another post. […]
