For this Sunday I’ve come up with the theme Winding for our B&W photo challenge.
The absence of colour will put more stress on shapes in the picture, so take advantage of this opportunity and focus on a shape of a winding road, a forest path, a meandering mountain stream, a funny looking veggie or anything twisty, curving, sinuous or tortuous that you can think of. Whatever your choice for this Sunday don’t forget to leave links to this post and please, have fun!
For my entry I chose a photo taken at Quinta da Regaleira, a bewildering estate located near the historic centre of Sintra in Portugal. Built at the turn of the 20th century owing to the rich imagination of its owner Carvalho Monteiro and that of Italian architect Luigi Manini, the estate is an enchanting property featuring a palace and a chapel, a luxurious park with lakes, grottoes, benches, fountains and a vast array of exquisite constructions among which the most mysterious and appealing are initiation wells that resemble underground towers lined with stairs. The wells were never used as water sources; instead they served for ceremonial purposes that included Rosicrucian initiation rites.
