BLACK & WHITE SUNDAY: AFTER AND BEFORE Y1-02

Every Sunday I publish a photo challenge in black and white that I call Black & White Sunday. I usually come up with a fresh theme for it, but once a month I publish a recurrent (monthly) theme: after and before where you are supposed to show the same  photo, regardless of the subject, in both monochrome and colour.

This is a way of encouraging you not only to set your camera to black and white setting, but to shoot in colour and to convert it into black and white in post processing. I find it useful to look at the same photo in both renditions. By doing this I become more aware of the details, shapes and composition and it eventually helps me improve my photography skills. Maybe you will find this exercise useful too ……

I just came home from some travels and family visits now and I have a lot of catching up to do in the blog world.
Hope everything is good in your parts of the world!

  15. I would never have thought of photographing a garlic clove. The photographs are spectacular, Paula. I LOVE them both. But, is I had to choose, I’d say the original. Why? Because I can smell the garlic scent in that one. Your photographs are inspiring. Thank you for hosting.

  16. I love your garlic. I love the texture of the skin and I think I like this one much better in color. It’s almost monochrome anyway, but the color brings out the texture.

  19. I’m another advocate for the colour version on this occasion – I love the golden glow and the light and contrasting darkness seem to show up better as well as the texture of the papery skin. Beautifully photographed Paula. I must have a go at some still-life / indoor photography. Have a lovely week, looks like being a bit miserable here 😦
