WOW – WORDS OF WISDOM – Y23 #2

If you are viewing this post now, it means that you are at the Words of Wisdom challenge. It is a challenge where you are invited to post a quote (wise or not by anybody, even anonymous are welcome) and to accompany it with an image that you took. Rest assured, you are not obliged to make a drawing or painting for this.

Most of you are familiar with this quote:

“Do not cast your pearls before swine (Matthew 7:6)”, but did you know that it coincides with the Korean proverb

“A pearl necklace on a pigโ€™s neckโ€

  3. The Spanish proverb “Como echar margaritas a los cerdos” (literally translates to “like throwing daisies to the pigs” in English) would fit as an ironic response to this post. This phrase means that it makes no sense to share something valuable with someone who won’t appreciate it or doesn’t deserve it. In a way, the Korean proverb and the biblical verse mentioned in the post refer to the same concept. Sharing wisdom with those who don’t value it is like putting a pearl necklace on a pig’s neck.

      1. You are right regarding the biblical verse, it comes from Matthew 7:6 in the New Testament, where Jesus is cautioning his followers not to give what is holy to dogs or throw their pearls before swine, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack. It’s a metaphorical way of saying that some people won’t appreciate or value the things we offer them, and it’s wise to discern who those people are and adjust our approach accordingly.
