Thursday’s Special: Green & White against Blue

Perched high on a promontory overlooking the Corsican Gulf of Saint-Florent, the polychromatic church of San Michele is the finest representative of the Pisan-Romanesque style architecture on Corsica. Its green and white serpentine and limestone walls date back to the 12th century.

I captured this jewel glistening beautifully in the late summer sun amidst dramatic and seductive Corsican landscape.

To complete your experience please listen to a traditional Medieval polyphonic chant performed by Corsican group “A Filleta”

    • Hello Allan, there are about twenty-seven of them from the same period, but I did not get to see all of them. Anyway, I believe this one is the most picturesque due to its style, but also due to its position :). Thank you so much for coming and commenting 🙂

    • Funny you should say that, Sreejith 🙂 I first thought it looked like a dinosaur especially before I corrected its slanted lines 😀 Thank you so much for your kind comment. Bless you, Paula

  6. A cross between a chess board and the Mezquita, Paula 🙂 I like the drama of its situation and can just picture the musicians playing down in the village.

  10. Wow, what a perfect shot on a perfectly lighted day! I enjoyed the chant too. It sealed the deal on an otherwise fine image. 🙂 Sometimes, I see a photograph that sticks in my head as an example or or a mental link to something important. This image feels like one of those.

    • 😀 I think it is the building considering your profession :), but yes, the music is terrific in this one. I am quite proud of myself for having discovered it 🙂 Thank you, Madhu 🙂

  13. I can’t believe I still haven’t commented on this! Mea Culpa. I saw it almost immediately after you posted it and didn’t feel like I could convey how powerful it is, so I waited. The church itself is such an incredible piece of art/architecture. You capture is so vibrant and stunning. I hardly ever like to listen to music on blogs, buy yours is always an exception. This is a great choice for the photo. Happy Thursday’s Special… very late!
