Regular visitors to my blog know that once a month on a Sunday I post a combined photo challenge theme for Black&White Sunday. It is called AFTER and BEFORE and it invites you to post the same image both in black and white and in colour. The topic and subject are entirely arbitrary. The only condition is that you post an image captured in colour…

If you were a regular visitor here two years ago you might remember this little church from Corsica. I found appropriate that it should be featured again, this time in the Traces of the Past series. (You may notice how my attitude towards photo editing and enhancing has changed over the years; the fact that the colours in this shot are more muted and…
My friend Debbie asked me what would make me happy, so here is the answer: Discovering new lands in the company of the loved one would do it, and I hope that this summer my knees will allow me to do that again. (give music a few seconds to start) This is my response to the Guest Photo Challenge hosted by Debbie…

I could not resist posting another photo (that some of you could see in colour before) of Corsica, but this time in black and white. Do you have some black and white landscapes that you want…
If not the tallest standing stones I have seen, the menhirs of Filitosa on Corsica are definitely the most scenic ones. Plenty of mystery has always surrounded these creations. For the archaeologist Roger Grosjean, the statue-menhirs represented the enemy chiefs killed in battle. The megalithic people would immortalise the enemy warriors strength in stone, so that it could never again manifest itself. (read more…
Would you join me for a walk among the menhirs of Taravo valley on Corsica? The largest and the most famous megalithic site on the island, Filitosa, stretches on a hilltop of an ancient olive grove. I knew I wanted to see Filitosa even before I came to the island. Seriously, if you had seen the advert “open air museum with stones cut and…
