  1. The composition and most definitely contrast is perfect, Paula! And those stairs leading all the way to the…heaven…directly! 🙂

    1. Again I went shooting at the worst possible time of the day, but when travelling one can’t be too picky ;). The subject of the photo is what makes it interesting, but thank you I will gladly accept your compliment about composition and contrasts :). I am not ungrateful Ese :D.

            1. I don’t know very much about it, except that it was an old watchtower, and thanks to this discovery a family managed to make an attractive bed and breakfast on the property. It is located just outside Verona, Italy.

  2. Such an odd looking structure. Any idea for what it might have been used. Love the soundtrack! 🙂

  35. This is such a great photo – the two windows at the top almost look like eyes – and the center opening feels like a mouth – and the weathering effect seems like tears – or hints of sadness – there even seem to be window ears – and the top part – with its different color seems like hair. the mood of this – as well as the subject – really fits the word abandoned so well. 🙂 ~yvette.

      1. okay, had to add this old children’s poem that the photo reminded me of:

        Houses
        By Aileen Fisher

        Houses are faces
        (haven’t you found?)
with their hats in the air,
and their necks in the ground.
Windows are noses, windows are eyes,
and doors are the mouths of a suitable size.
And a porch- or the place where porches begin-
is just like a mustache shading the chin.
