Black & White Sunday: Summertime

When we think of summer, we think of it in colours, mostly blue and green, and all those bright and lively colours that can be seen on funny clothes, bathing suits and sun umbrellas, but what does summer look like when it is stripped of colour? Join the challenge and find out….

  3. The B&W gives these a timeless feel – could be a holiday from many years ago, though the final shot looks much more modern. I’m not sure if that’s because of the fashion or the light.
But it looks a good day whatever! Happy Sunday Paula

    2. You are right on both accounts, Debbie – it is the fashion and the light but also the relaxed attitude to beach attire. I don’t imagine that back in the old days people would walk in their underwear on a beach.

  4. Paula I think it causes one’s imagination to kick in as to what it might look like in full color. Thought provoking.

  5. Great summer shots Paula. I like the particular sharpness of the last two, and their emotional content. The last one expresses my granddaughter’s cry when she returned from Slovakia: “Want to go back to the holiday”! The figure is drawing in the site (and sight) of a great day. The Willy one expresses thoughtful anticipation, and it’s full of contrasting textures and dark-and-light.

  7. one concentrates on essence rather than on ‘distraction’ (colour). the photos did’t loose any charm loosing the colour. au contraire, the last three ones might even loose some of the character in colour. though I must say, I am often reluctant to strip colourful photos of colour. have to train myself to think differently.

    1. This is interesting Klara. I thought that you were very comfortable in B&W. So much so that I considered asking you to host a B&W photo challenge sometime 🙂 Please, feel free to get in touch if you are interested.

      1. will think about it Paula. as you have noticed I am more ‘all action(photo), no talk’ than the other way round which is a bit of a problem for hosting. but, you never know, I might get inspired. we are in touch, so I’ll let you know.

        1. Take your time and thank you. Btw, there are guests that I like a lot that don’t talk much. One sentence is all we need. If the photo is good, who the hell needs text, right? If you want you may choose a tune and I would upload it for you 😀

    1. That’s great Max. I have knee effusion and am using laptop only for brief amounts of time and only walk the necessary 100 meters a day. I don’t know if I will be able to go to park to shoot for your challenge in September, and I don’t know the prognosis of this knee disaster as I have no treatment. I have a trip booked to Spain in October; maybe that will have to be abandoned too.

      1. Shit! What’s a knee effusion anyway? I’ll duckduckgo it right away!

        2. I had a similar thing in my elbow early this summer: my bursa went ballistic and the elbow suddenly looked like a fucking football. It’s all good now and it healed pretty quickly. Hopefully your knee will heal as fast as my elbow did.
