Black & White Sunday: Negative Space

Negative Space – a space that is not there or the space that you don’t like?

It can be either, but speaking in terms of photography it is a space that isolates the subject of a photo, or complements it, or draws attention to it. To see more examples of negative space in photography please see my guest’s post.

This is my interpretation of negative space.

              1. I do. I go to bed early Paula (9pm). The early morning allows me to exercise a bit and get myself ready for the day.

    1. They are mind-blowing, you know. All three of your examples. Yesterday I was crazy about the second and now about the third (I wonder why). The third one looks like infrared.

      1. Yes – you’re right – the third is infrared. I really like your affirmation about the photos – it’s great to get such positive feedback. Thank you very much.

        1. Your work deserves to be “studied”. I don’t have a chance to this often cause of my busy schedule and I am often sidetracked responding to bloggers that are really persistent in commenting. Did you capture it as infrared or you managed the look in the post processing?

          1. I processed the image in Photoshop. Unfortunately I no longer have that program – it was on my old computer that crashed last year.

  11. Great picture, Paula. I always try to consider negative space in its own right, creating an own form or shape. And I must say I find the black (“background”) shape in your picture very pleasing. Good one!
