Regular visitors to my blog know that once a month on a Sunday I post a combined photo challenge theme for Black&White Sunday. It is called AFTER and BEFORE and it invites you to post the same image both in black and white and in colour. The topic and subject are entirely arbitrary. The only condition is that you post an image captured in colour and that you turn it monochrome in post processing. I enjoy this little exercise which permits me to see the same scene through colour and without it, and I hope that you will enjoy doing the same.
As of today my Black&White Sunday is turning into a fortnight event which means that I will be challenging you in monochrome photography every other Sunday. One Black and White Sunday per month will have a permanent theme: After and Before and the other Sunday will be theme something different every month.
I hope you will still going to participate enthusiastically despite of these changes :).

Regular visitors to my blog know that once a month on a Sunday (usually the last one in a month) I post a combined photo challenge theme for Black&White Sunday. It is called AFTER and BEFORE and it invites you to post the same image both in black and white and in colour. The topic and subject are entirely arbitrary. The only condition is that you post an image captured in colour and that you turn it monochrome in post processing. Have a great week ahead!
Sometimes I have trouble deciding which edit I prefer. Is it colour or black and white? The thing I like about black and white edit here is that there is no sight of the pink jacket in the right of the frame, and that the shapes of mountain are more discernible. Still, I like to think of nature in colour, its colours and shades are inimitable.

Every Sunday I publish a photo challenge in black and white that I call Black & White Sunday. I usually come up with a fresh theme for it, but this time I want to introduce a recurrent (monthly) theme: after and before where you would show the same photo, regardless of the subject, in both monochrome and colour. This is a way of encouraging you not only to set your camera to black and white setting, but to shoot in colour and to convert it into black and white in post processing. I find it useful to look at the same photo in both renditions. By doing this I become more ever of the details, shapes and composition and it eventually helps me improve my photography skills. Maybe you will find this exercise useful too ……

Today’s theme is easy. All you have to do is to show a photo that you took in colour and then converted into black and white. The theme is “after and before” so start with the after photo 🙂
For this example I chose a photo of a small waterfall that I prefer in colour, but its monochrome rendition revealed me the details I hadn’t noticed before. I will not tell you what they are, maybe you’ll notice them too.
When you make a post for this challenge, link to this post and leave me your links in the comment section bellow. I will start looking at your entries on Monday. In any case you have time to post till next Saturday. Wish you all a good week ahead!
