BLACK & WHITE SUNDAY: AFTER AND BEFORE Y1-03

On Sundays I normally publish a photo challenge in black and white that I call Black & White Sunday. I usually come up with a fresh theme for it, but once a month I publish a recurrent (monthly) theme: after and before where you are supposed to show the same photo, regardless of the subject, in both monochrome and colour.
This is a way of encouraging you not only to set your camera to black and white setting, but to shoot in colour and to convert it into black and white in post processing. I think that this may be a good exercise in seeing. Hope you will join me. Remember, any subject is OK as long as you show it both in colour and black and white. Wishing you all a beautiful day!

BLACK & WHITE SUNDAY: COUNTRYSIDE

I live in the centre of the city and every trip to the countryside is a treat for me. I don’t do it often, but when I do I never miss the opportunity to photograph what looks like an ideal dwelling. This Sunday you are asked to post a photograph (or several) of a countryside which may, but does not have to, contain buildings or structures of some kind. This time you have two weeks to respond cause of my absence next Sunday.

I usually come up with a fresh theme for it, but once a month I publish a recurrent (monthly) theme: after and before where you are supposed to show the same photo, regardless of the subject, in both monochrome and colour.
This is a way of encouraging you not only to set your camera to black and white setting, but to shoot in colour and to convert it into black and white in post processing. I find it useful to look at the same photo in both renditions. By doing this I become more aware of the details, shapes and composition and it eventually helps me improve my photography skills. Maybe you will find this exercise useful too ……

BLACK & WHITE SUNDAY: TRACES OF THE PAST Y3-02

Traces of the Past is a recurrent photo challenge theme on this blog, which runs every month (for a third year now). This month we are doing it in black and white and next month this theme will be tackled in colour. You are free to choose whatever thing, building or place (even a person) that belongs to the past. It maybe a past long forgotten or a past very much present and incorporated into today’s existence.
Luznica Manor – 18th century Baroque castle that changed hands quite a few times in history is now a home of the Spiritual-Educational Centre “Marijin Dvor” and it is run by Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul, (ZAPREŠIĆ, CROATIA)

BLACK & WHITE SUNDAY: SIGN

Welcome to another Black and White Sunday challenge. Today’s theme is SIGN.
I went with my astrological sign depicted in a beautiful pavement in Belem district of Lisbon, but you know that you can take this word as far as you want. Let’s see how creative you can be.

I usually come up with a fresh theme for it, but this time I want to introduce a recurrent (monthly) theme: after and before where you would show the same photo, regardless of the subject, in both monochrome and colour. This is a way of encouraging you not only to set your camera to black and white setting, but to shoot in colour and to convert it into black and white in post processing. I find it useful to look at the same photo in both renditions. By doing this I become more ever of the details, shapes and composition and it eventually helps me improve my photography skills. Maybe you will find this exercise useful too ……

Black & White Sunday: Artificial Light

The theme of today’s black and white photo challenge is artificial light. You have a week to respond.

Black & White Sunday: Landscape

Today we are having everyone’s favourite theme: landscape. The only trick is that it has to be in black and white. My memories have taken me to Poland, this time on the shores of lake Czorsztyn.
A path, a meadow, some trees, and an old castle hanging above a lake; what more should a landscape have?

Black & White Sunday: Nightscape

Even though it hasn’t been long since we did nocturnal for Thursday’s Special, I am giving you another night theme, but this time in B&W. It is nightscape, a representation of a night scene.
The absence of colour lets us focus on shapes more, and the scene is more solemn with a film noir feel. Maybe you’d like to join the challenge even if monochrome is not your first choice when it comes to photography. However, converting a photo into Black and White can be revealing. It makes you look with a different set of eyes – eyes that are not distracted by colours.
